The mixed-media fiber artworks by ecofeminist artist Cindy Rinne represent a collage of cultures collected over the years to tell new stories. Working in collaboration with the text or materials, she creates new myths or discovers myths of the past and combines them with present experiences. She stitches memories into textile collages, layering and obliterating fragments of cloth, a connective process that generates a whole out of curvilinear pieces. Layers reveal destruction, change, and rebirth. Working on several projects at once, as she does, allows ideas to percolate, and each piece includes aspects of improvisation (from the Artist Statement at her Fiberverse website).
