One of the quartets – Prayer X – will be featured in Issue 26 of MacQueen’s Quinterly, launching on New Year’s Day.

Prayers for Morning: Twenty Quartets is a collection of 22 artworks (six B&W and 16 color) by Kendall Johnson and 60 prose poems: 20 each by Kendall Johnson, Kate Flannery, and John Brantingham. One poem from each author plus one of Johnson’s artworks comprise the four voices of a single quartet.

This book was conceived as a way to lend voice to those oppressed by the overwhelming swarm of toxic world events during the Fall of 2023: climate breakdown, political fracture, the saturation of media trance, the tragedy of Gaza, and the apparent collapse of human reason. Each of the poets, Johnson, Flannery, and Brantingham, came to this project with a different perspective, a different concern for the world. Yet their common purpose yields a unity of spirit. Through these artworks and poems, the authors seek balance via diverse spiritual traditions and their own memories. Their prayerful quartets bring insight, direction, and hope.
