Mistaken

Chet misreads Diane’s mood ring, sees pulsing purple instead of flashing red, draws in close. She ducks incoming lips as he backpedals in apology with haste, the difference between the pulse of a mood and the flash of a past being vast, more temperature than color, more plastic than gold.
