MacQueen’s Quinterly: Knock-your-socks-off Art and Literature
Issue 24: 30 Aug. 2024
Poem: 62 words
By Jane Edna Mohler

Unstoppable

the moon’s wordless drift

a chicken hellbent streaking for a fat beetle

the midnight banter of secrets between roof and rain

even the elderly

elms that line the road

will cross to the other side

after hosting the nurseries of squirrels

all that leafing and dropping

falling

the act they’ve rehearsed in their deepest heartwood

getting where we need to go
