You stand alone 
as the light tries to lure you 
into this tangled 

geometry of shapes, 
triangles emerging 

out of the rubble. 
That light keeps shining through 
all the unlikely 

angles of this doorway, 
its rectangle slipping. 

You stand and wonder 
whether you should step 
inside and explore 

hidden shapes and shadows, 
lurking geometries 

never named by Euclid.

Gary S. Rosin

is a Contributing Editor of MacQueen’s Quinterly.
