Lovebug
My wife has taken a lover—a middle-aged cockroach she met in the archives while researching hunger artistry in Prague.
I knit the truth of her betrayal together from flaccid explanations and a single careless photo shared to Facebook—a group snapshot taken in Rieger Garden at sunset. In it, I notice his hairy forelegs casually looped around her tan thigh. The thought of them skittering down stone streets together in the shadows of Baroque cathedrals undoes me.
“Why?” I demand.
“You’ve never shown interest in my work,” she tuts. “And Gregor can survive for a week without a head.”
